    Freeze results?

What were the effects of the freeze(s) on your landscape bromeliads?  Which plants showed major damage & which ones were superstars?

I my yard the plants with the most damage were:  Ae. blanchetiana, Ae. serrata, and Portea petropolitana.  Virtually all exposed surfaces of these varieties have dried up and turned white.  Ae. fasciata also had considerable damage but they are plentiful and will come back quickly.

The superstars were the Quesnelias.  Open blooms of Q. testudo were damaged but flowers that had not yet opened are emerging now with no damage.  Same for Ae. distichantha.
Most Neoregelias & Billbergias showed very little damage.

After the damage I had from last year I didn't fool around with just putting the frost cloth on and seeing my babies crushed by the weight of neighboring cats and from weighting the cloth down.  I put up tents with frostcloth and plastic.  I used strings of lights, oil filled heaters and heat lamps in the covered areas.  I learned I had to poke holes in the plastic at the right spots so the rainwater would not pool up and bring my tents down.  I found 20 foot tents on sale for 99.00$ a piece which I will reuse.  (Auto Zone)  I do worry when theres high winds, but so far my ground stakes have held fast.  My best tent is next to my house, where the heat out of my atic comes out into my tent.  I created doors with some lumber and put old blankets up to roll up and down.  It was alot of work but I  had no damage!  Zipties, groundstaples and binder clips are a must!  When It warms up I roll up the sides of my tents so I get airflow and more light.  It's a project and will be when I have to take it down again.  Now I have another problem, the cats have decided they like to spray on my coverings and have visited Animal Services which I bought my own trap to catch some of these fereal cats.  I caught the female which was probably the problem and I haven't seen a Tomcat since.  One day I will get a real greenhouse, but for now this has been my great efforts.
